I mentioned that this feature was coming soon in a previous post - it is now here! If you regularly use your own templates in Google Docs - maybe something like an assignment sheet - you may want to consider creating a Custom Building Block!
When I was teaching, I usually made new assignments by making copies of old ones and changing the information. Except...more often than I'd like to admit, I forgot to actually make the copy, so I ended up typing over my old information, having to go back to revision history, etc...it wasted a lot of time. With this feature, you can just open a new blank document and immediately insert your template. Here's how!
Start with a blank version of the template you want to reuse:
Highlight ALL of it. And then right click and select "Save as custom building block" and give it a name and description (optional).
Now, any time you are in ANY document, you can type in "@" followed by the name you just entered, and it will automatically place your block!
🤯
Combine this with the doc.new feature, and you can get rolling with new document templates in seconds!
