THIS WEEK IN DIGITAL LEARNING

Creating SchoolAI Spaces Collaboratively

SchoolAI Spaces are a great way to integrate AI into your classroom with some "training wheels" such as being able to control exactly how the students engage with the chatbot and being able to see the transcripts. I've written before about what they are and how they work, but this week, I want to provide some very specific examples that I have created collaboratively with teachers for specific purposes. For each one, I will provide a link to the student view as well as one to the teacher view where you can "Remix" (make a copy of) the Space to edit it or "Launch" it to your students as-is.

SAT Math Prep

SAT Math Prep

This Space is designed to help students prepare for the math portion of the SAT. It gives them one question at a time and then after 10 questions, it gives them their score and asks if they want any explanations on how to solve any of the questions.

Finding the Story

Finding the Story

This Space helps students learn interview techniques to prepare them for writing news articles. It first gives students a press release and then asks them who they want to interview. It then takes on the role of that person, providing more information and quotes that students can incorporate into their stories.

Son of the Mob Interview

Son of the Mob Interview

In this Space, students get to take on the role of a character from the book "Son of the Mob". The Space then asks them interview-style questions. The students must utilize specific examples from the book when answering the questions.

Story Arc Studio

Story Arc Studio

This Space is designed for supporting students as they write stories. It can be used for traditional creative writing or for creating scripts for video or theater. The Space asks students to copy and paste their draft story and then provides them with feedback based on the classic "story arc".

Email Etiquette Support

Email Etiquette Support

This Space is designed for students to get feedback on an email before they send it out. It helps them learn how to craft professional and respectful communication with teachers and each other. The Space does NOT rewrite the email for them.

Changing History

Changing History

In this Space, students take on the role of any US president they want. They then go through a "Choose Your Own Adventure" style game where they encounter the same issues that their president experienced and then they get to decide how they respond/react. At the end, they can choose to run for re-election and then see if they are re-elected!

Working on Spaces collaboratively with others has been a win-win for us. Teachers have great ideas for Spaces, but don't always have the time to sit down and create them and make sure they work. As a Digital Learning Specialist, I am able to spend more time writing and testing prompts to ensure they meet the needs of the teacher.
