Save Time With These Quick Tips!

This week, I'd like to focus on YOU. I wish I could give you the gift of more time in your day, but unfortunately, I haven't quite mastered time travel (or cloning...which is another thing I wish I could do). What I CAN give you is some quick tips and tricks that might save you a little bit of time for you to take a deep breath, eat a snack, or run to the bathroom.

Trackpad Tips

  • When using a trackpad, you can "right click" by using two fingers to click instead of one.

  • When using a trackpad, if you move two fingers up or down the trackpad, it will scroll the page (it defaults to "natural" scrolling which means top to bottom scrolls up and bottom to top scrolls down. That can be changed in the settings of the trackpad.)

Selection Tips

  • When you want to select multiple files on your computer, in your drive, or really anywhere else - hold the CTRL key (⌘ on a Mac) and click on each item. It will select everything you click on while you are holding CTRL. Then you can let go and move/copy/delete them all!

  • To select a range of files, click the first one, then hold the Shift key and click the last one. Everything in between will be selected!

Google Drive Tips

  • See more at once by changing to "List View" (See even more by going into the settings gear to change your "Density" from "Comfortable" to "Compact".)

  • View more details and activity on individual files (such as...who has opened it or edited it) by using the "More Details" button or just tapping the "i" key on your keyboard.

  • Quickly view all of your folders and subfolders at once using the little arrows on the left sidebar. Organize your Drive by dragging files into the folders.

  • When something is shared with you that you want to organize into your own Drive, don't make a copy of it (unless it is something like a template that you want to make your own). Instead, just drag it into one of your folders! This will create a shortcut to the original file. Which means - it is organized AND you get to see any changes/updates from the original owner.

  • Finally, my favorite...Advanced Search. When your Drive gets a little out of control and you can't remember where something is located or what you called it (or it's called "Untitled Document" along with about a million others) - go up to the Advanced Search button in Drive (on the right side of the search bar) and you can search for files based on file type, owner, location, date modified, title, words within the file, who it was shared with, and more.

These are just a few of the quick and easy tips to save you time. I have lots of other more complex strategies to help you - if you have something you do that makes you think "There must be an easier way!" Please ask! Those are the kinds of problems I love to solve!
