THIS WEEK IN DIGITAL LEARNING

Using AI Chatbots

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to highlight some AI tools that are approved for STAFF use and some quick suggestions on how you might be able to use them to enhance your productivity. You are also welcome to use these tools in class for demonstrations, but unless otherwise noted, students are NOT permitted to use these tools themselves.

You probably know about ChatGPT and you may have even used it a few times. But did you know that unless you pay money, ChatGPT doesn't have access to information after January of 2022?? That's more than 2 years ago!! We also don't have a signed data privacy agreement with ChatGPT, so the information you enter is not protected.

Instead of ChatGPT, you should really move to either Google's Gemini or Microsoft's Copilot. When you are logged in with your londonderry.org account, these tools fall under our data privacy agreements with Google and Microsoft. They also use current web searches to provide more up-to-date data. (For example, ChatGPT did not know that Jerod Mayo is the head coach of the Patriots - both Gemini and Copilot did.)

If you've never used a chatbot to help you as a teacher...here are some prompt suggestions along with the results:

Prompt: "Suggest interactive activities for a World History lesson about Renaissance Art that cater to different learning styles."

Gemini's Results:

Prompt: "Help me draft an email to a parent whose student has not turned in any assignments this semester and does not pay attention in class."

Copilot's Results:

These are just a couple examples of ways you can utilize chatbots like Gemini and Copilot in your work. Feel free to explore them and see what they can do to help you!
